The Garfield Heights Head Start Full Day Program serves children ages four to five who reside in the City of Garfield Heights. Garfield Heights City Schools has partnered with The Council for Economic Opportunities in Greater Cleveland (CEOGC), and Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program (UPK) to service students and families in Garfield Heights. It is our job to provide high quality education for students enrolled in the program. There are several tools used to test knowledge to continue the brain growth and development in the students and families that are served. Teachers and staff are trained, monitored and offered continuous amounts of professional development to make sure that your child is offered and obtaining the best quality education possible. Family engagement is very important, not only for your child, but also to promote early learning experiences for the family as a whole. Our partnerships allow our staff to build relationships with families to better assist our students with their needs. When we all can come together, we can promote positive relationships in the students' lives that can assist and better their future and learning experiences.
The curriculum is a combination of "traditional" early childhood programming, developmentally based, and specially planned, structured interventions and procedures to address the special needs of the children. Our Head Start team includes a school psychologist, a Head Start teacher, an Intervention Manager, a CEOGC Family Service worker, and a CEOGC Education mentor.
Head Start is a full day program which runs from 8:20am - 2:20pm Monday-Thursday (NO LATE START THURSDAY). Your child MUST be four years old by September 30th of the current school year to qualify for the program.
