GH High School's Theatre Department Wins Four Coveted Awards, Tying for Most in NE Ohio

Garfield Heights High School's Theatre Department recently took home four awards from the 2014 Broadway World Regional Awards, tying for the most awards by one school district. Specifically, the Theater Department won an award for “Best Production of a Musical-Educational or Community Theatre," with is production of Legally Blonde. Department head and director Mr. Stephen Benjamin won the award for Best Director of a Comedy or Drama-Educational or Community Theatre, for the group’s production of Steel Magnolias. In addition, some specialty awards were handed out to Katie Wells for her creativity in designing outfits for the performances. She was awarded Best Costume Design of a Musical-Educational or Community Theatre for Legally Blonde and also Steel Magnolias. Garfield Heights High School tied for the most awards received with nearby Hathaway Brown High School. The Theatre Department at the High School puts on two widely proclaimed productions each year that are open to the community. This year’s spring production of Hairspray is set to open in April.
