December Board Meeting Showcases Students’ Successes

The regular meeting of the Board of Education for the month of December 2014 featured more than the five members taking routine action on district policies. By special invitation of the Board, students at both the elementary and high school level had the opportunity to showcase their respective talents and be recognized by the community. Third grade students, under the direction of music teacher Christopher Eppley, performed several holiday songs for the Board of Education and citizens from the community in attendance. Guitars, drums the piano and bells were all part of this musical segment of the board meeting. Once completed, Superintendent Terry Olszewski turned his attention to the Garfield Heights Varsity football team, and recognized seniors on the team for their leadership during an unprecedented season, where they won the conference championship for the first time in school history and made the playoffs for only the third time in school history. The Garfield Heights City Schools Board of Education has a long standing tradition of moving the location of their board meetings to the various schools, in order to be more accessible to the community and to give those buildings a chance to show off student successes. Thank you to all those who participated in the December meeting of the Board.
