Garfield Heights Middle School Students Participate in "Court in the Classroom" Event

Eighth grades students at Garfield Heights Middle School had the unique opportunity to observe firsthand the way a Common Pleas Courtroom processes various cases as part of Cuyahoga County’s "Court in the Classroom" program recently. Visiting the Middle School was Common Pleas Court Judge Steve Gall, prosecuting attorneys, defense attorneys and a handful of non-violent defendants who agreed to have their cases heard before a group of students. The cafeteria at the Middle School was transformed into a Common Pleas Courtroom, where the cases were heard by Judge Gall and sentences were handed out. The Garfield Heights City Schools has participated in this program for many years with the intent that students would learn more about how the legal and justice system in our county works. The Garfield Heights City Schools thanks the Common Pleas Court of Cuyahoga County for this interesting and educational opportunity. Click here for a short video at the beginning of the court proceedings. Click here for news coverage from Channel 19 News.
