Highlighting Our Top 10: Alycia Bardwell (#10 - 3.941 GPA)

Alycia Bardwell is #10 of our Top 10 Students with a 3.941 GPA. Alycia is part of the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program. For those unfamiliar with this program, that means that Alycia took a portion of her classes here at Garfield Heights High School and some classes at Cleveland State University. The classes taken at CSU earned her both high school and college credit.

Alycia is a well-rounded student. Besides excelling in academics, she was on the Varsity Basketball team in 9th through 11th grade, the yearbook staff in 11th grade, National Honor Society in 11th and 12th, and the Glass Ceiling Roundtable junior and senior year. The Glass Ceiling Roundtable is a group of junior and senior girls that have been recommended for their leadership skills. This group has guest speakers that have “broken the glass ceiling,” meaning they are in careers that historically have been male-dominated. These women share their experiences and helpful tips with the young ladies. This sounds like a lot already, but Alycia also played Tuba for the GHHS Band all four years of high school, working her way up to Section Leader.

Alycia plans to study forensic science at Bowling Green State University. She has already been awarded a $4,000 per year academic scholarship from BG and is waiting to hear about further awards.

One of the classes Alycia did take and enjoy at the high school was history. Her Roses for Teachers recipient is Ms. Audrey Roalofs from our social studies department.
