Intervention Specialist Jennifer Humphrey has been selected as the winner of the Northeast Ohio Media Group Crystal Apple Award for Recognition Period #3 in the High School grade category sponsored by Bryant & Stratton College. Timothy Wright, a graduate from Garfield Heights High School nominated her for the award. He said the following:
“Ms. Humphrey was truly the best that I had when I was a student at GHHS, and she continues to serve all students in her co-taught classes each day, addressing their individual needs, whether officially identified or not. She knows her students so well that she can instantly explain math concepts in a way that their individual brains can absorb, and she holds them accountable for learning, combining the perfect mix of compassion and tough love. Ms. Humphrey hits the ground [literally] running every morning, seldom wearies, and is one of the last to leave her office each evening, always going above and beyond her job description to give her all for any student who needs her. There is no doubt in my mind that neither my brother nor I would be thriving adults if Ms. Humphrey had not guided us through high school, giving her all to see us successfully through our high school years. On behalf of my family, and so many other students who have benefitted from her compassion and concern for us as people and not just students, I nominate Jennifer Humphrey for the Northeast Ohio Media Group Crystal Apple Award as a truly outstanding educator.”
