GHMS joins the Greater Cleveland Conference

Garfield Heights Middle School has joined the Greater Cleveland Conference (East Division) for the 2015-2016 school year. The decision to join the newly formed league stems from the dissolution of the previous league (Northeast Ohio Conference). Garfield Heights High School will play an independent schedule for the 2015-2016 school year. Teams in the Middle School Greater Cleveland Conference East Division include Garfield Heights, Shaker Heights, Solon, Mentor Shore, Mentor Memorial, Euclid Forest Park, Mentor Ridge, and Euclid Central. Each sport will play one to two cross over contests with the West Division. West side teams include Strongsville Albion, Strongsville Center, Brunswick Willetts, Brunswick South, Elyria Eastern Heights, Elyria Northwood, Elyria Westwood, Medina Claggett, and Medina Root.

Football has planned a playoff system that will pair the top two teams from each division, the second two, etc. for competitive balance. Volleyball and Basketball will feature league tournaments with brackets seeding teams 1-8 in each division. Cross Country and Wrestling will feature a league meet with all 16 schools. Garfield Heights Middle School will host the leagues’ 7th Grade Volleyball tournament and Wrestling tournament. We are very excited for this change and look forward to a great year!
