Garfield Heights City Schools Students Collect 3,500 Items for the Needy Through Annual Food Drive

Students throughout the Garfield Heights City Schools gathered more than 3,500 items for the needy over the last several weeks, just in time for the holiday season, as part of its Annual Food Drive. Students at each building, including the team at the Bus Garage and Central Office, collected non-perishable and canned-food items. These items were delivered earlier this week via school bus to one of three drop-off points in the community. Known as “distribution centers,” these locations include The Rock Community Church, Word of Righteousness and Garfield Heights City Hall. Each location serves as a location where the needy can visit for food supplies. Each drop-off point received approximately 1,000 items that will be shared with those in our community.

Students and staff take great pride in this yearly Food Drive process and include the hard work and support of so many individuals, including the effort’s originator Amy Sumen, and building leaders: Toya Owens-Hodge at Maple Leaf, Ryan Shumen at the Middle School, Stacey Wielgus at Elmwood, Jen Huncharek at William Foster and Amy Tomon at the High School. Thank you to Mr. Olszewski and the Board of Education for their continued support and encouragement of this annual effort that goes to help families right here in our community.
