Awesome Mapleleaf Student Volunteers!

On Wednesday, April 18, 2018, Maple Leaf students received a lesson on Global Youth Service Day, which is recognized April 20-22, 2018. GYSD is recognized in over 100 countries and is celebrating it's 30th year. The lesson discussed what a volunteer is/does, the importance of giving, helping, donating and performing acts of kindness. The book "How Full is Your Bucket?" was read and students learned why it is important to volunteer and the reward they recieve of feeling good by giving freely of your time to help a cause.

Students in 2nd grade were asked to give up their recess and 3rd graders were asked to give up their computer time on Friday, April 20th, in order to volunteer for a special AmeriCorps project.

The students were awesome and the AmeriCorps speakers were surprised at receiving such a huge volunteer turnout! The students made bookmarks to place in books that AmeriCorps collects for kids! The students all agreed that their bucket was filled by the service they did on Friday, which was such a beautiful day to be outside, knowing their creations will put smiles on the faces of kids receiving books with their bookmark!

Classes participating were Mrs. Booher, Mrs. Rose, Mrs. Watt, Mrs. Pustai and Ms. Herman.
