As part of the ongoing effort and emphasis that the Garfield Heights City Schools has placed on sensitivity to matters of race relations and diversity, staff members participated in another session on such topics with Michael Douglas earlier this week. While classes resume for students on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, staff members used Tuesday, January 2nd as an opportunity for professional development. One valuable component of the day was the scheduled discussion with Garfield Heights City Schools alumnus and expert in the field of diversity training, Michael Douglas. The exercise included a back-and- forth dialogue about various topics, questions and answers and evoked a passionate discussion about sensitivity towards diversity in the school district. More opportunities for continued dialogue and expression in these topics are scheduled for the future with staff. In all, the Garfield Heights City Schools will continue to identify opportunities for its staff and student body to grow as it relates to matters of diversity, acceptance and race relations.
