Joan Chamberlin Fills Vacancy on Garfield Heights Board of Education

Joan Chamerblin getting sworn in by Board President, Mr. Wolske

Joan Chamberlin has been appointed to fill the vacancy on The Garfield Heights City Schools Board of Education. The opening on the Board came as a result of a vacancy created by the departure of June A. Geraci, who left her position in early December 2017.

Chamberlin is a familiar face to the Garfield Heights City Schools, where she spent virtually her entire career as a teacher and administrator for many years. She retired three years ago, finishing her long tenure in the district as an Assistant Superintendent. She looks forward to working again for the schools and the community in this new capacity.

“The Garfield Heights City Schools was my home for many years and it holds a special place in my Bulldog heart,” said Chamberlin. “As a lifelong resident of Garfield Heights, it will be an honor and a privilege to serve in this new and different role as a Board member.”

Mrs. Chamberlin’s official appointment to the Board of Education came at the Regular Meeting held on January 12, 2018, fulfilling the statutorily established timelines for filling vacancies on Boards of Education in the State of Ohio. Over the years, Mrs. Chamberlin has been active in the community and has had opportunities to work in each school building in different professional assignments in the district.  She wants to continue a positive approach to ensure decisions are student-centered and within the district budget and anticipates bringing her many years in public education to the role as a Board member. “I look forward to meaningfully contributing to the Board of Education,” added Chamberlin.
