GHHS Students Participate in Tri-C Poetry Read-In

On Thursday, Feb. 15, 28 Garfield Heights High School students attended a poetry program at the Tri-C Eastern Campus called “Peace, Hope & Love: Celebrating Black Poets”.  The Read-In is a nationally recognized program designed to increase the awareness of African American authors during Black History Month. Sponsored by National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).

A group of professional published poets shared two poems each to the group of over 150 students from the multiple schools that were in attendance. At the end of the program, they asked if any students wanted to share their owns poems with the audience and the professionals. Three students from Garfield Heights High School had the courage to read their poems aloud: Amber Kelley, senior, Jalen Herod, junior, and Elena Smith, freshman.

Here are two videos of our students performing their selections:

It was great for students to get a chance to hear experienced writers share great works of poetry with students. We all can be very proud of the GHHS students who had the courage to share their poems as well.
