For the past several years, Garfield Heights City Schools has worked with Michael Douglas, the owner of Diversity Initiatives Incorporated. Mr. Douglas and his firm work with students, parents, employees, and community members to approach issues relating to diversity through a variety of means including direct intervention, training, simulations, parent engagement and other programming.
On January 17, Mr. Douglas was honored by the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission with the Community Building Award. This statewide award was presented to Mr. Douglas in Columbus at Trinity Episcopal Church. The criteria for the award states “The recipient has used Dr. King’s vision of nonviolent social change in efforts to successfully bring people from diverse backgrounds together to build a better community."
Within our school community, Michael Douglas has certainly embraced the art and practice of bringing people together to help all of our students and faculty be successful serving the Garfield Heights community. Congratulations to Mr. Douglas on receiving this prestigious award!
