The 2019 Black History
Month Celebration at Maple Leaf Elementary at was honored in a very unique
way. We began February with a Door Decorating contest that featured
African American History-Makers:
Kindergarten & Lanse/Schmalz- Musicians,1st Grade & Lanse/Schmalz- Sports, 2nd Grade & Bailey- Inventors, 3rd Grade & Bailey/Knight- Actors, 4th Grade & Knight - Historically Black Colleges and Universities ( Tuskegee University, Central State University and Howard University),5th Grade-Civil Rights Movement,ENCORES/Specialist/Cafeteria/Office Staff-Pioneers in Science & Medicine;African American Writers;Arts/Theater/Television .We ended the month with a school day with Musical Performance!.Our evening program featured Mr. Smith's Winter Art Show that showcased the African American themed artwork from our Kindergarten through Fifth graders. We are very proud of our
Fifth Grade students Harmony Gettis and Deon conducted oral presentations on
Harriet Tubman and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Lastly, While, our musical
performance featured our Second Grade classes of Pustai, Watt and
Halusker. As well as our Amazing Fifth Grade choir performed under the
direction of Mr. Joshua Chenoweth.
