Teachers are Welcomed Back to GHCS!

As part of the annual series of events that traditionally kick-off each and every school year in the Garfield Heights City Schools, teachers were greeted with a breakfast, brief presentations and a day of team meetings during the Welcome Back Ceremony held at the High School. The camaraderie was apparent early on, as the morning began with breakfast in the cafeteria at 7 a.m. The High School drumline got everyone’s attention with an up-tempo rhythm as staff members then convened in the Center for Performing Arts to listen to brief remarks from newly appointed Superintendent Chris Hanke who spoke about his intent to help foster collaboration and cooperation throughout the school year. Treasurer Al Sluka gave a quick financial report while also previewing the construction of the new Transportation Center north of the High School. Ashley Turner and Amy Sizler were given a new award called the Diversity Champions Award for their help in launching the student-based Project Mosaic last year with the late Michael Douglas. Welcome back staff members of the Garfield Heights City Schools. Students start on Thursday, August 22nd
