Evacuation Safety Drills Scheduled

The Garfield Heights City Schools will be conducting a series of Practice Evacuation Drills during the week of September 16th, including one practice evacuation at each building per day. The intent of the practice evacuation drill is to prepare the students, staff and entire district for the event of a catastrophic building emergency which would prompt the buildings to vacate for another safe and secure location. The district maintains a comprehensive set of emergency evacuation plans, and what will take place next week is a practice implementation of those protocols. One building in the district will practice their own respective emergency protocol each day. The schedule is as follows:

=         Monday, 9/16: Maple Leaf at 9 a.m.

=         Tuesday, 9/17: Elmwood at 9 a.m.

=         Wednesday, 9/18: Middle School at 9 a.m.

=         Thursday, 9/19: High School at 1:55 p.m.

=         Friday, 9/20: William Foster at 9 a.m.

The practice evacuation drills will include students vacating the buildings and boarding buses that will transport them to the high school, along with the entire building staff. Once the drill is completed, students will return to their buildings for the remainder of their day. Keep in mind that this is only a practice drill. The Garfield Heights City Schools will work in coordination with the City of Garfield Heights and the Police Department for extra help each day next week. The purpose of the drill is to include routine preparatory work, in case of a real emergency and has been applauded by the State of Ohio.  For more questions about this practice evacuation drill, please feel free to contact the district at any time at 216-475-8100.
