Failure of November Levy will bring about changes

November 10, 2011

As many of you may already know our school levy was defeated. We did gain support over the last three levy attempts however we did not gain the support needed for a passage. A good deal of time, effort, money, and organization was invested in this race, as in the last several races. I wanted to write and offer my sincere thanks to those staff members, community members, and "the precinct captains," -- who helped to run the campaign for Issue #10. A special thanks to our co-levy chairs, James Fruits and Mike Hopkins for leading this great effort.

Unlike business, school districts are mandated by Ohio law to be financially responsible and at the same time continue to provide an education to its students despite financial constraints. The need for additional money is profound and real.  We can no longer operate on the same voter approved moneysince 1992. I am currently working with members of our administrative team.  We have started the process of outlining the additional cuts and changes that will take place during this current school year. Some of these changes will take place as early as January.  I will be communicating the timeline to staff members and the community once it has been finalized.
