Garfield Heights City Schools' Annual Canned Food Drive
The Garfield Heights City School District participates in an annual canned food drive that benefits members of our Garfield Heights community. All five school buildings collect and donate canned goods as part of a district-wide effort to be a contributing member of our community. This year, we donated approximately 1,200  items to The Rock Church and an additional 1,400 items to The City Of Garfield Heights' food pantry. This means our district has donated well over 2,700 items from Garfield Heights High School, Garfield Heights Middle School, Maple Leaf Elementary School, Elmwood Elementary School, and William Foster Elementary School!

DID YOU KNOW that both food distribution locations get vouchers in order to get food to donate to people in need? Did you also know that they only get approximately $250 in vouchers? Did you also know that they distribute on average $500-$800 in food? When the Garfield Heights City Schools give to these two places, we help them give more. They save a little money and the food stays in our own community.

Below is a picture of the Garfield Heights Middle School students, members of the Builders Club, who helped deliver the food from the Middle School as well as students from Maple Leaf. Included are ladies from the Civic Center who like to take pictures with the students. Unfortunately, the Mayor was out and about when the students were making their delivery. Staff and students were able to get all the food delivered to The Rock Church and The Garfield Heights Civic Center in one afternoon. Click here for pictures from all of the buildings who participated!

A special thanks goes out to Ryan Shuman and Megan Higginbotham, for coordinating the Middle School students; to Amy Toman at the High School, who has been donating items from the K-3 Canival since about 6 years ago; to Jen Huncherik, Joewel Gray, and Toya Owens-Hodge who involve the elementary level K-Club members and run the collections in their buildings; to Faith Conroy and all the other staff members from the bus garage who stay each year, making extra runs to get the items delivered; and to all the staff members who have helped out over the years through spurring your students and their parents to contribute to the drive as well as by assisting with collections in your buildings.

Together we do so much!
