It May Be Summertime, but Plenty of Learning Takes Place at Maple Leaf!

The school year may be over, but there is still a great deal of learning taking place at Maple Leaf Elementary, in a variety of comprehensive ways. During the summer months, specifically from June 6th to July 7th, Maple Leaf Elementary Schools is host to three distinct programs, all designed to help students grow. The district’s Kinderbound program gives students who are beginning Kindergarten in the coming fall an opportunity to get acclimated and prepared for the upcoming school year. Basic lessons are explained in the core subjects, along with interpersonal skills being taught. For students entering grades 1st through 3rd, Maple Leaf hosts a Summer Literacy Program, which is offered to help advance students’ reading proficiency, keeping the goal of better preparation for the upcoming year in mind. The GHCS proactively seeks students in these grades which it feels could benefit from supplemental reading, and provides this opportunity. About a dozen staff members are on-hand to make this programming possible, allowing students the option of being involved in this incredibly beneficial program. The Kinderbound and Summer Literacy Programs are just a few more ways Maple Leaf Elementary and the Garfield Heights Schools are being proactive with regard to student learning to better help in their future academic careers.

Along with these insightful learning programs, Safety Town is offered at Maple Leaf through the months of June and July. Through the help of the City of Garfield Heights safety forces, students are taught about the importance of such safety lessons including swimming and water safety, traffic safety and general social awareness. Students are also given hands on opportunities to learn by riding tricycles and having to correctly stop and go at traffic light simulations. Stay tuned for more great activities coming out of Maple Leaf Elementary, have a safe and happy summer! School begins in the Garfield Heights City Schools on August 15, 2017.
