Alumni Update: Amanda Kitson, Class of 2008

Amanda Kitson grew up in Garfield Hts. and was a graduate from Garfield Hts. High School in 2008. Prior to graduation, she was accepted to a joint undergraduate/medical school program where she received conditional acceptance to medical school at The University of Toledo. During her time in Toledo, she participated in undergraduate research and played clarinet in the wind ensemble. In 2012, she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Women’s and Gender Studies. She was the Dean’s Medalist in the Department of Biology and was voted as the Outstanding Student for the College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics in 2012.


In 2012, Amanda was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Air Force through the Health Professions Scholarship Program. She completed Commissioned Officer Training at Maxwell AFB and an Aerospace Medicine and Physiology course at Wright Patterson AFB.  In 2016, Amanda graduated from The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences with her Doctor of Medicine. She was accepted into Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA), a medical honor society, and also received the Earl H. Freimer, M.D. Award for Excellence in Microbiology & Immunology.


In 2016, Amanda matched into the Anatomic/Clinical Pathology Residency Program at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. She will complete a four-year training program in pathology before serving in the Air Force as a general pathologist. She is currently a second year resident and has participated in research and a training program for medical educators. In her free time, Amanda enjoys cooking, running, going to wine tastings, and spending time with her cats and dog.
