Varsity Football Head Coach Lance Reisland Steps Down

Varsity Football Head Coach Lance Reisland Steps Down, District Extends Gratitude

Veteran football coach Lance Reisland has announced his resignation from his role as head coach of the Varsity Football Team and the Garfield Heights City Schools extends its gratitude to him for his long-time service.  Reisland makes the announcement following one of the most successful varsity football campaigns in school history, where his team finished with an overall record of 11 wins and 1 loss, including an undefeated regular season, the first of such in 41 years, and advancement to the second round of OHSAA playoffs. Coach Reisland, who is a health teacher at Garfield Heights High School, has coached for 23 years overall, serving the last four seasons as head coach. Preceding Coach Reisland’s tenure as head coach, he served as a varsity assistant with a specialty as offensive coordinator, to his father, Chuck Reisland, for 18 years.

District Superintendent Terry Olszewski praised Coach Reisland for his mentorship of the young men of the Garfield Heights City Schools varsity football program. “On behalf of the entire District, the Athletic Department and the Board of Education, we congratulate Lance Reisland on a successful career and we appreciate his hard work and  dedication to the student-athletes of our community.”

Coach Reisland will remain a teacher in the District, where his wife Lee Ann serves as Coordinator of Teaching and Learning, and intends to spend more time with her and their 6-year old daughter. Lance Reisland is a graduate of Orange High School and a letter winner from Kent State University in football. The Garfield Heights City Schools extends its heartfelt gratitude, and expresses its best wishes, to Lance Reisland and his family for an admirable term as head varsity football coach in our District.
