The final week of school before winter break was devoted to learning, holiday cheer, and also some competition at Maple Leaf Elementary School, where the first stages of the Scripps National Spelling Bee contest began. On Thursday, December 19th, students in each classroom engaged in a vigorous effort to spell words shared by their instructors in front of the class. A competitive spirit combined with proper spelling with the hope of becoming a classroom champion which will lead to the emergence of a building winner in January. The individual who is determined champion of Maple Leaf will advance to the regional round. Great job students and staff members for having the courage to compete in the spelling bee, and for instilling extra learning before break, building wide.
