Garfield Heights High School Sustainability Class Inspires Future Environmental Stewards
Garfield Heights, OH — This week, Garfield Heights High School’s Sustainability class, under the guidance of teachers Mr. Pavelek and Mrs. Rickus, took an important step in building a greener future by connecting with young students at William Foster Elementary. Through engaging activities centered on the letters "E" and "R" and farm animal themes, they helped the kindergarteners explore the basics of sustainability in fun and memorable ways.
As the high school students shared their knowledge, they not only encouraged the younger students to think about environmental impact but also bridged a connection between generations in Garfield Heights. This partnership will continue throughout the school year, creating valuable opportunities for collaboration between the high school and elementary students, fostering mutual respect and shared goals in environmental stewardship.
Mr. Pavelek and Mrs. Rickus designed the program to build awareness of how daily choices impact the environment. “We’re focused on inspiring these young minds early,” said Mr. Pavelek. “The earlier we can encourage environmental consciousness, the better the chance for positive change in the future.”
The initiative ties into a larger vision where people around the world, including these young learners, take small but meaningful steps toward a sustainable tomorrow. From eradicating poverty and hunger to protecting natural resources and fostering peaceful, inclusive societies, sustainability is crucial for a thriving world.
Garfield Heights High School’s Sustainability class is part of a movement to mobilize young people as problem-solvers, ready to tackle environmental and community challenges. By sharing this commitment with the elementary students, they hope to spark a lifelong passion for sustainability and community impact. Together, Garfield Heights High School and William Foster Elementary are building a bridge for intergenerational learning, paving the way toward a healthier planet for all.
