As part of DEI week in the Garfield Heights City Schools, teachers and staff participated in a day of Professional Development centered around DEI topics. For one of the sessions, they experienced an African drum circle, led by Brother Olugbala (Brother Olu) Manns. Brother Olu talked about the importance of being together “on the 1” and challenged our teachers to experience things from their students’ perspectives and talked about how, just like the Djembes that they were playing, you have to give energy to receive energy back. Teachers and staff were engaged, encouraged, and challenged during this session, which was just one of many for the day.
