What is the Great Lakes Apple Crunch?
The Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch encourages healthy eating and supports farm to school and other local food purchasing initiatives throughout the region. Oftentimes when you buy food from a local producer, the produce was recently harvested. This means many local fruits and vegetables were picked when nutrients and taste are at their peak. Last year we sampled a variety of local apples in each of the elementary schools. This year, we’re featuring local apples as part of our Local Breakfast Bistro Box. Also in the box: Local cheese cubes from Middlefield and a Breakfast Bar made with local flour at @DoughGos in Canton.  Check out this teachable moments kit for word searches & coloring sheets -
