On January 19th, Superintendent Hanke recommended to the Board of Education that the Garfield Heights City Schools stay in the remote learning setting through February.
Why did we change course?
Many, many new families signed up for the BDA. This suggested to us that parents/caregivers were not comfortable with in-person learning. It also created an issue with scheduling the appropriate teacher(s) and courses. We wanted to avoid overloading classes, swapping schedules, and creating new course sections. Staying remote helps us with all of this.
What happens now?
Good news! Everything stays the same for right now. Students will continue to follow their schedules and remain in their current spots.
Newly enrolled BDA families will remain in their home schools since everyone will be learning virtually. Students from the BDA who were opting out to return to school will remain in the BDA.
Will we begin transitioning on March 1st?
We will begin planning for a potential March 1st transition to hybrid. Please check out our website and social media channels for updates. We will also be sending a survey to parents soon, so be on the lookout for that, too!
