RESOLUTION NO. 2022-02
RESOLUTION HONORING THE SERVICE OF ROBERT A. DOBIES, SR.
TO THE GARFIELD HEIGHTS CITY SCHOOLS

WHEREAS, the Garfield Heights City Schools seeks to commemorate the honorable public service of the late Robert A. Dobies, Sr., a long-time member of the Board of Education, and
WHEREAS, Bob, as he was affectionately known by those with whom he was close, was a 1970 alumnus of Garfield Heights High School, and attended Garfield Heights Junior High School and Maple Leaf Elementary School, and along with his wife Michelle, had three sons who all attended the Garfield Heights City Schools, and
WHEREAS Bob was actively involved in the Teamsters organization as a driver for many years, advocating for fair wages and equality in the workplace, and was also personally involved with the Greater Cleveland Golden Gloves Boxing Association, serving as Vice President and also as a ringside announcer, and
WHEREAS Bob served the City of Garfield Heights as Recreation Director, starting new and creative initiatives to further involve the youth in our community, and has been described by former City of Garfield Heights Mayor Vic Collova as not only ‘a most thorough and efficient employee, but someone who devotedly ran the programs of the Recreation Department, always advocating for the community and demonstrating a true heart of gold, and
WHEREAS Bob was a long-time member of the Garfield Heights Athletic Boosters and Little Bulldog Wrestling program, helping to coach the youth in the Garfield Heights community for many years, and prompting a lifelong passion for engaging our children in constructive activities through the school district, and
WHEREAS Bob was first elected to the Garfield Heights City Schools Board of Education in 2005, and took office in 2006, and was currently serving in his 15th year, having served in that time as President, Vice President, City Liaison and as a member of the student activities committee, and
WHEREAS Bob demonstrated a true love for this District and its students, by being fair with his decision-making, a proven willingness to listen to all parties involved in a discussion but a firmness in his convictions as to what was right in his eyes for the GHCS, a dedication to fiscal responsibility, and an overall compassion for the staff, students and everyone in the school family, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED that Robert A. Dobies, Sr. is commended as a ‘true Garfield Heights City Schools Bulldog,’ and is celebrated for his public service to this community and his advocacy for the youth of this City.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that henceforth the Garfield Heights Board of Education room will be known as the Robert A. Dobies Sr. Board of Education Room.
