Garfield Heights City Schools Basketball Family Honors Charlie Anderson, the Ultimate Bulldog Superfan!

The Garfield Heights City Schools honored “Superfan Charlie Anderson,” at the Boys Home Varsity Basketball Game earlier this week, with the special dedication of a reserved seat, to commemorate the years of exuberance and loyalty that he demonstrated to the Boys and Girls Basketball programs. Sadly, Charlie passed away in April 2020.  Near the permanently reserved seat, a plaque has been affixed that reads: “This seat is taken, in remembrance of Charlie Anderson, the Garfield Heights Superfan.” Charlie Anderson was a lifelong resident, an alumnus of the Class of 1989, and left an impression that fans around him will never forget. “His never-ending Bulldog Pride was evident at every home and away game that the Bulldogs played,” according to Dale Kryznowek, Coordinator of Athletics and Student Activities. Board Vice President Millette King, and Members Ashley Thomas and Heather Morrison were in attendance and listened to the impassioned remarks from Boys Head Coach Sonny Johnson, and Nick LaBella who worked with Superfan Anderson, for many years. Garfield Heights basketball enthusiasts will recall his spirited “Let’s Get this game started!...” opening line before each and every game. A moment of silence was held before the home Boys Basketball game, to dedicate the seat, and to forever memorialize Garfield Heights’ very own, Superfan Charlie Anderson.
