GHCS Supports and Celebrates Recently Enacted Juneteenth Federal Holiday

The Garfield Heights City Schools would like to formally acknowledge and encourage everyone’s recognition and celebration of Juneteenth, the holiday which commemorates the day that many enslaved individuals in Texas learned about their freedom, and which just recently became a federal holiday. While long-celebrated by African Americans due to the significance of the date of June 19th, 1865, the elevation to federal holiday status took place earlier in the week, for all to recognize and celebrate.   The summer programming for the GHCS will go on as scheduled on Friday, June 18th, and Monday, June 21st, however, the GHCS would like to signify its commemoration of the Juneteenth Holiday and encourages our school family to do the same.
