Garfield Heights City Schools Mourns the Loss of Joseph M. Juby, Longtime Board Member, Community Leader
On behalf of the entire Garfield Heights City Schools family, the district sadly shares the news that
longtime board member, alumnus, and community leader Joseph M. Juby has passed away. Joseph, or
“Joe” as he was affectionately known by all with whom he worked, served on the Board of Education
since 2003, and served in every capacity during that time, including as Board President and Board Vice
President. He graduated from Garfield Heights High School in 1970, and along with his beloved wife
Anita, who graduated from GHHS in 1971, made Garfield Heights their home for their entire lives. His
three children all graduated from Garfield Heights as well, including Michael (’88), Pamela, (’90), and
Joseph (’01). He had eight grandchildren, whom he loved and adored. Joe was a Garfield Heights
Firefighter/Paramedic in our community for 26 years, becoming one of the very first paramedics in all of
Cuyahoga County. He held union leadership positions in the GH Firefighters’ union for 18 years and
served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Northern Ohio Firefighters Union for 12 years. Joe volunteered in
his community during his entire life. As a Board member, he championed integrity, fiscal responsibility,
and accountability. Please join the Garfield Heights City Schools in mourning the loss of Joseph M. Juby,
honoring his exceptional life, and recognizing his devoted service to our school district.
