On behalf of everyone in the Garfield Heights City Schools, please join our Bulldog Family in welcoming Mr. Samuel Vawters as our next High School principal. Mr. Vawters brings an extensive background in public education to this new position, having served as a High School Principal and K-8 Principal in nearby school districts over the last several years. We encourage you to read his full biography below!
Mr. Vawters has over 25 years in education and has served as the building principal of Bedford High School for Bedford City School District and an elementary school and pre-k -8 principal for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.
Prior to serving as a building principal, Mr. Vawters taught in the Akron Public School system. During his tenure there he taught at the elementary and middle school levels and in the juvenile correctional facilities. Mr. Vawters also served as Dean of Students for the Akron Public Schools.
In addition to working in the greater Cleveland and Akron areas, Mr. Vawters has worked in other diverse educational settings, including Dayton, Ohio.
Mr. Vawters holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Central State University, a master’s degree in Education Administration from The University of Akron, and a Superintendent’s license from Ashland University.
Throughout his career, Mr. Vawters has been recognized for dedication, innovation and excellence in the area of education. Mr. Vawters has served on the executive board of the Cleveland Council of Administrators and Supervisors as the Divisional Vice President for K-8 Schools. He is a member of the National Alliance of Black School Educators, and also a member of the National Association of Elementary and High School Principals. He serves on the board for Arlington Christian Academy and the Education Committee for Valley Christian Academy.
