November Was a Month to Remember in Garfield Heights City Schools
November proved to be a month filled with generosity, partnership, and community spirit. Garfield Heights City Schools held a district-wide food drive to support families facing challenges due to government shutdowns and other hardships. Thanks to the incredible support of our staff, students, families, and community partners, the initiative was a tremendous success—continuing to feed roughly 100 families who responded through surveys, the McKinney-Vento program, or by visiting the Board of Education for additional assistance.
Gratitude to Our Schools
A heartfelt thank-you goes out to Elmwood, William Foster, Garfield Heights Middle School, and Garfield Heights High School for working together as a unified Bulldog team. Their donations of pantry items played a major role in meeting the needs of our families.
The Transportation Department also generously donated pantry items, further contributing to the success of our food drive.
A special shout-out to Maple Leaf Elementary, whose existing school pantry allowed students to take home bookbags full of donated food to support their families.
Garfield Heights Middle School also hosted a successful Literacy Night, where families received turkeys to help them prepare for the holiday season.
Thank You to the Board of Education
A sincere thank-you to the Board of Education staff for contributing generous monetary donations to support the food drive. Your teamwork exemplifies what it means to serve our community with compassion.
Special Appreciation for Our Community Partners
We are truly grateful for the continued support of our community:
The Village Church — Donated turkeys to our McKinney-Vento families and provided additional pantry items that helped us serve even more households.
The Homeschool Co-ops — Garfield Heights families who homeschool their children came together and donated an entire room full of meal bags, complete with ingredients and recipes for comforting dishes, including full Thanksgiving meals and hearty classics like chicken chili soup.
Thank you, Garfield Heights community, for showing once again that when we come together, we make a lasting difference for our families.
