January highlight pic collage

Just as our Garfield Heights community was settling back into routines after winter break and the start of a new year, January’s winter weather arrived unexpectedly. Freezing temperatures, heavy snowfall, and powerful winter storms quickly made their way through our city, reminding us how unpredictable Mother Nature can be.

Temperatures dropped as low as –10°F, with wind chills ranging between –10° and –35°, while snowstorms covered our streets and walkways in knee-deep snow. With a statewide salt shortage adding to the challenges, families, staff, and neighbors worked together to stay safe and support one another during a total of seven snow days.

While the pause gave many of us time to rest and reflect at home, it also served as a gentle reminder: sometimes life asks us to slow down, prepare, and prioritize safety. Mother Nature answers to no one, and being cautious is always better than being caught off guard.

Even though we appreciated the extra time at home, there was a shared excitement across the district to return to our routines, reconnect, and move forward together.

Here’s to a safe, strong start to the new year — Happy New Year, Garfield Heights!
