Elmwood Elementary had an exciting week leading into spring break! Our wonderful Title staff hosted the Cozy Corner Literacy Event, creating a warm and engaging space for students to celebrate reading. Congratulations to Ms. Cox’s class for selling the most chocolate bars in our candy fundraiser—LET'S GO!!! To top it all off, students had a blast at our PBIS Egg Hunt, making lasting memories with classmates and staff. It was the perfect way to wrap up a fantastic week!

Elmwood would like to highlight Azariah Coder for achieving perfect attendance so far this school year—an outstanding accomplishment that reflects dedication and responsibility while Staying in the Game. We also celebrate the spectacular start of Ms. Smith’s Run Club, which has already energized and inspired our students. In addition, our school community enjoyed festive St. Patrick’s Day fun filled with spirit, along with an engaging schoolwide NED assembly that encouraged positive attitudes and perseverance through yo-yo tricks and stories. It’s been an such exciting time here at Elmwood!

Elmwood Elementary had a wonderful time celebrating Read Across America Week, a nationwide event that encourages students to develop a love for reading. Throughout the week, students participated in fun literacy activities such as themed dress-up days, classroom story time, and special reading events with teachers and guest readers. The celebration helped inspire creativity, imagination, and a lifelong appreciation for books while bringing the school community together to highlight the importance of reading. A special Thank You to Mrs. Baxter for planning Elmwoods event.

February at Elmwood was filled with many wonderful celebrations and meaningful moments for our school community. Students and staff came together to recognize Kindness Week, celebrate positive behavior during our PBIS incentive, and honor the achievements and contributions highlighted in our Black History Month program. Each event brought energy, learning, and unity throughout the building. Elmwood would also like to give a special shoutout to Ms. Tia Smith and Ms. Bre Williams for their dedication, hard work, and the positive impact they continue to make in our school community while taking the lead on our BHM program.

The Elmwood Spelling Bee was a wonderful showcase of hard work, confidence, and impressive vocabulary from all of our students. Congratulations to Kameron from Ms. Russ’s class for an outstanding performance and for earning the title of Spelling Bee winner! A special thank-you to Mrs. Watt, the event organizer, for her time and dedication in making the Spelling Bee such a success.

Miss McBride, a dedicated first-year 2nd grade teacher, and her class earned December’s Attendance Reward by achieving the highest number of attendance days. Remarkably, her students maintained 100% attendance throughout the entire month, demonstrating commitment, teamwork, and consistency. Congratulations to Miss McBride and her class—thank you for Staying in the Game!

Elmwood joyfully celebrated the season with a Gingerbread House Competition, filling the school with creativity, teamwork, and holiday cheer. This special project took place during the 12 days leading up to winter break, giving students a fun and festive way to showcase their imagination and craftsmanship. A heartfelt thank you goes to Mrs. Durrah(STEM) for making this wonderful project possible—her dedication and support helped turn this experience into a sweet holiday memory for everyone involved. Congratulations to all of our student WINNERS!

Elmwood’s Holiday Concert was wonderful. The music and performance was so enjoyable and made everyone smile. Thank you to Ms. Smith and her 2nd grade class for all their hard work and for putting on such a lovely concert for your parents and guardians. Happy Holiday's!!!

Today Ms. Cillian, Mrs. Shinshock, and Ms. Raimer participated in "Inside the Huddle with the Cleveland Browns". This was part of Garfield Heights City Schools " Stay In The Game" attendance initiative. Students were able to ask questions virtually and receive answers in real time. Our students at Elmwood displayed such excitement leading up to this special opportunity today!

Elmwood celebrates student achievements, builds confidence, and motivates students to continue working hard and attending school each and every day. Elmwood honored students for academic, behavior, and perfect attendance. Ms. Frimel and Dean Henley spoke about behavior expectations, Ms. Huncharek spoke about the importance of attendance and Miss Williams assisted with passing out awards. Congratulations to all of our award recipients.
