DEI Week ~ 2022

Celebrating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Week in the Garfield Heights City School District

Hello everyone in the Garfield Heights City Schools community!  My name is Yolanda Hamilton, and I'm here to invite you to help our school district celebrate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Week in our district during the week of Monday, May 9th through Friday, May 13th.  Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Week...or DEI Week for short... is the opportunity for all of us to unite educators, staff, students, and families to continue the process of building a culture that values and embraces our individual and collective differences.  Help us celebrate this momentous occasion.
Throughout the week of May 9th, many activities and guest speakers will be included at all levels of education in the Garfield Heights City Schools... and we'd like to share some of those with you in this video.
* On Monday, May 9th, we're asking all students and staff to wear their BULLDOG GEAR or blue and gold colors to unify over DEI Week.  All ages...all grades...showcase your bulldog pride, and let's unite to celebrate DEI Week!
* At the Elementary levels, art projects reflecting DEI...literacy activities that focus on a diversity-related topic will be promoted and a student mosaic will take place where younger students will have the opportunity to join their older high school classmates for a project.
* At the Middle School and High School, an essay contest will be underway, where all students can submit one original essay to express how individuals would promote social justice in their community.
* Finally, on Thursday, May 12th, our DEI Family Night Out will take place at Garfield Heights High School, from 6-8pm with a southern-style meal in the cafeteria and an engaging performance to follow in the gymnasium afterward with the help of MyCom.
