DEI Week Introduction

GARFIELD HEIGHTS CITY SCHOOLS CELEBRATE DIVERSITY WEEK - APRIL 19TH THROUGH APRIL 23RD, 2021

In an effort to celebrate the diversity emphasis the Garfield Heights City Schools is encouraging among students, staff, and the entire school community, the District will host its very own Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Week during the week of April 19th through April 23rd. The week’s theme is Uniting our Neighborhoods Intentionally Through You (U.N.I.T.Y.) and has planned a variety of events, activities, and more to promote inclusion. In addition, a special video has been created to share some of the ideas and beliefs to which our Bulldog family is abiding. Please enjoy the video below and stay tuned on social media and the District website to see the ways in which the Garfield Heights City Schools is promoting diversity and equity among our school family. 

Drum Circle - 2021

As part of DEI week in the Garfield Heights City Schools, teachers and staff participated in a day of Professional Development centered around DEI topics. For one of the sessions, they experienced an African drum circle, led by Brother Olu. Brother Olu talked about the importance of being together “on the 1” and challenged our teachers to experience things from their students’ perspectives and talked about how, just like the Djembes that they were playing, you have to give energy to receive energy back. Teachers and staff were engaged, encouraged, and challenged during this session, which was just one of many for the day.

Middle School Diversity Corridor

This is the Diversity Corridor at Garfield Hts. Middle School. The U.N.I.T.Y. chains were placed in the main lobby because it is a central location visible by anyone in the building. Students and staff will pass by or under the chain throughout the day and be cognizant of the importance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.  
  

High School Jazz & Rock Bands Celebrate Diversity!

The High School Jazz and Rock Bands perform at the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion event for the community at Garfield Heights High School!
