The Garfield City School District has an unexpected Board of Education vacancy as of June 30, 2026. The Board is now accepting letters of interest as a potential board member from eligible residents who desire consideration to fill the vacancy through the completion of the unexpired term that ends December 31, 2027. Interested eligible residents must deliver a Letter of Interest and Qualifications as a potential Board Member addressed to Board Vice President Thandeka Cox c/o Treasurer Phillip Oko, 5640 Briarcliff Drive, Garfield Heights, OH 44125, before 12:00 p.m., June 15th, 2026, and be available for interview by Board of Education members during a special meeting held on June 22nd, 2026. Elmwood wrapped up the school year with a series of unforgettable end-of-the-year celebrations filled with school pride. Students built daily excitement during the final weeks with the creative ABC countdown, marking each day with a unique themed activity. Outstanding student achievements and growth were recognized during our awards ceremony. Energy reached an all-time high during Field Day, where everyone enjoyed a full day of outdoor games, teamwork, and friendly competition. Finally, the entire school community gathered for the emotional 3rd-grade clap-out, cheering on our students as they walked the hallways one last time to celebrate their transition to the next chapter. Elmwood students proudly participated in the Miles of Smiles All-Star Track and Field Day hosted at Nordonia High School. The day brought together athletes from schools across the region to compete in track and field activities while celebrating teamwork, determination, and inclusion. Students enjoyed the opportunity to showcase their talents, build friendships, and create lasting memories in a fun and supportive atmosphere.
What an amazing experience at Elmwood Elementary! We had the pleasure of hosting YouTuber and magician Ricky Smith Jr., and he absolutely wowed everyone with his incredible tricks and high-energy performance. Students were engaged, amazed, and Mr. Washington participated and enjoyed every minute of his performance. It was a day full of magic, laughter, and unforgettable moments!

Elmwood Elementary had an exciting week leading into spring break! Our wonderful Title staff hosted the Cozy Corner Literacy Event, creating a warm and engaging space for students to celebrate reading. Congratulations to Ms. Cox’s class for selling the most chocolate bars in our candy fundraiser—LET'S GO!!! To top it all off, students had a blast at our PBIS Egg Hunt, making lasting memories with classmates and staff. It was the perfect way to wrap up a fantastic week!
Elmwood would like to highlight Azariah Coder for achieving perfect attendance so far this school year—an outstanding accomplishment that reflects dedication and responsibility while Staying in the Game. We also celebrate the spectacular start of Ms. Smith’s Run Club, which has already energized and inspired our students. In addition, our school community enjoyed festive St. Patrick’s Day fun filled with spirit, along with an engaging schoolwide NED assembly that encouraged positive attitudes and perseverance through yo-yo tricks and stories. It’s been an such exciting time here at Elmwood!

Elmwood Elementary had a wonderful time celebrating Read Across America Week, a nationwide event that encourages students to develop a love for reading. Throughout the week, students participated in fun literacy activities such as themed dress-up days, classroom story time, and special reading events with teachers and guest readers. The celebration helped inspire creativity, imagination, and a lifelong appreciation for books while bringing the school community together to highlight the importance of reading. A special Thank You to Mrs. Baxter for planning Elmwoods event.
February at Elmwood was filled with many wonderful celebrations and meaningful moments for our school community. Students and staff came together to recognize Kindness Week, celebrate positive behavior during our PBIS incentive, and honor the achievements and contributions highlighted in our Black History Month program. Each event brought energy, learning, and unity throughout the building. Elmwood would also like to give a special shoutout to Ms. Tia Smith and Ms. Bre Williams for their dedication, hard work, and the positive impact they continue to make in our school community while taking the lead on our BHM program.
