Water district reps recognized Butler Co. High faculty and staff for H20 bottle filling station project; board hears request to start string music program

The Butler County Board of Education met during regular session on May 9 at the Butler County High School.

Butler County Water District representative John Dick along with staff Lisa Hale, Don Lindsey, and Iris Moore, recognized the contributions that BCHS has made along with the water bottle refilling station.

The filling station offers students and faculty a place to refill their water bottle (for free) while saving the environment and having healthier drinking water.

Dicks presented a plaque to Butler County High School Principal Michael Gruber. Gruber said that since the filling station had been installed it has already been used by refilling 1,330 water bottles.

Also during the recognition, the Board recognized BHCS junior Ernest Lee as he has been accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy Summer Training Camp for the summer of 2017. Lee said thank you to his teachers and Major Redmond and Chief Melton for all their time.

Another CHS student Dalton Lee was also recognized as he earned a NJROTC $125,000 Scholarship to the University of Mississippi. Dalton also Thanked Major Redmond and Chief Melton for their support.

The final recognition of the night was to the Butler County Middle School seventh and eighth grade band for earning a Distinguished rating at the Concert Festival. Jordan Evans, Butler County Middle School Band Director and several band members were on hand to be recognized.

In other business, Butler County Schools Superintendent Scott Howard provided the board members with an update on various meetings and events he has attended in the last month, along with information regarding upcoming school events such as the eighth grade recognition ceremony set for May 24 at 1 p.m. and the BCHS graduation on May 26 at 7:30p.m.

Hugh Hocker presented on behalf of Mary Alice Black information about string instruments and requested that the board look for ways to add opportunities for a string program in the county.
