Garfield Heights City Schools to Conduct Practice Evacuation Drills Week of October 2, 2017

The Garfield Heights City Schools will be conducting a series of Practice Evacuation Drills during the week of October 2, 2017, including one practice evacuation at each building per day. The intent of the practice evacuation drill is to prepare the students, staff and entire district in the event of a catastrophic building emergency which would prompt a building evacuation. The district maintains a comprehensive set of emergency evacuation plans, and what will take place next week is the implementation of those plans. One building in the district will practice their own respective emergency protocol each day. The schedule is as follows:

  • Monday, 10/2/2017- Maple Leaf Elementary School at 9 a.m.
  • Tuesday, 10/3/2017- Elmwood Elementary School at 9 a.m.
  • Wednesday, 10/4/2017- Middle School at 9 a.m.
  • Thursday, 10/5/2017- High School at 1:30 p.m.
  • Friday, 10/6/2017- William Foster at 9 a.m.

The practice evacuation drills will include students vacating the buildings and boarding busses that will transport them to the high school, along with the entire building staff. There, students will organize by teacher for a brief period of time. Once the drill is completed, students will return to their buildings for the remainder of their day. A reminder: This is only a practice drill. The Garfield Heights City Schools will work in coordination with the City of Garfield Heights and the Police Department for extra help each day. The purpose of the drill is to include routine preparatory work, in case of a real emergency and has been applauded by the State of Ohio. For more questions about this practice evacuation drill, please feel free to contact the district at any time at 216-475-8100.
