Middle School Students Participate in SCRUBS Program at CVCC

Some of the Garfield Heights Middle School students attended a SCRUBS event that took place at CVCC last Friday, May 22ndMr. Capretta accompanied eight 8th grade males who have expressed an interest in pursuing a health-related career. Their interests ranged from dentist to nurse to surgeon to anesthesiologist and more.

During their time at CVCC, the Middle School students interacted with CVCC Health Career students checking blood pressures, eye testing, checking heart rates and learning about the skeletal system. They then met with several health professionals from Metro-Health Hospital. The students were able to speak with a life flight nurse, neo-natal nurse, and a medical researcher and then they worked with a phlebotomist. During lunch, they practiced their networking skills with professional males from the Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth Medical Center, local universities and other health care providers.

In the afternoon, they had the opportunity to tour a mobile medical unit, speak with a biomedical researcher, physical therapists and medical imaging professionals. All the students expressed great enthusiasm towards the program.
