April Team News

History – Select student’s Westward Expansion posters were displayed around the room and we completed a gallery walk where students had to tour around the room to learn about various US acquisitions during our expansion.  Currently we are learning the difference between the North and South in order to better understand how the Civil War started.

Language Arts – Students reviewed topics covered earlier in the year and prepared for the state AIR test.  Students participated in playing some Kahoot Games in class to help review these topics in a fun and educational way!

Science – Students worked in a group to make the strongest electromagnet possible using 1-2 batteries, 5 or 10 feet of copper wire and 1-3 nails.  They then mounted the electromagnet on a crane and were given 60 seconds to pull out as much debris from the scrapyard as possible. Formulas to determine cost, earnings and overall profit were given.

Financial Literacy - After learning to read contracts, Financial Literacy students completed a project where they were required to find an apartment in the Cleveland area on a minimum wage budget.  An impossible project to complete on your own, students discovered that minimum wage is an incredibly restrictive lifestyle that does little to help you acquire the things you desire.

8th Grade students can go to Cedar Point on Thursday May 24th (last day of school).  To be eligible student may not have been suspended during the school year or have more than 4 referrals.  Bring $60 cash to Mrs. Guzoski in room 112.

The Kalahari trip originally scheduled for Monday, March 12, 2018 has been rescheduled to Friday, May 11, 2018. If your student cannot attend on the new date please contact us immediately. Students will be expected to maintain good positive behavior until Friday, May 11, 2018 to be eligible to attend.  This means that they cannot get a referral, be placed in alternative school or IHP, in addition to meeting the behavioral expectations in the classroom and hallway. If a student is removed from the trip they will receive a refund and the parent will be made aware that the money is in the student’s possession.
