January 2018

Wednesday, January 3, 2018:  Government Experience with Tower Building

In Social Studies Phantom students were kicking off a mini-unit on the four main types of government.  To introduce them to the ways these governments work, students collaborated in groups to build the tallest straw tower they could while following  a “rule” that experience one of the types of government.  Students in the democracy group had to vote on everything, students in the monarchy group had to determine who was the oldest and that person was in charge of all decision making, students in the dictatorship groups had to have a cut-throat rock-paper-scissors tournament to determine who would lead their group, and students in the theocracy group had to choose cards that delivered “messages from the gods” while they worked.  Click here to see pictures.
