Elmwood Elementary School’s staff and students have been participating in a food drive for the last two weeks. The food drive began last Monday on November 9, 2015 and will be concluding on Friday, November 20, 2015. All items donated will be delivered by school bus to local food pantries right here in Garfield Heights.
Elmwood K-Kids club members have lead the school-wide food collection by making posters to hang around the building and making daily morning announcements to remind and encourage staff and students to bring in their non-perishable food donations. In addition, each day, K-Kids Club students have been collecting donated items from each classroom and packing all donated food in boxes to be ready for delivery.
This school year, Elmwood participated in the “First Annual Peanut Butter and Jammie Day”. Both students and staff were encouraged to bring in peanut butter, jam (jelly) and/or bread on Thursday, November 19, 2015. Any student or staff who brought in one of these items, were encouraged to wear their “Jammies” to school! This was a huge success and Elmwood will continue to do this each year during the Garfield Heights City School’s annual and local food drive.
