A Message from the Principal - Mr. Sean Patton
A Message from the Principal - Mr. Sean Patton

Late Winter/Early Spring 2017

Dear Families -

With the new year in full swing, expect a transformed sense of preparation and determination in the halls of William Foster. We are now in the middle of the third marking period, and students and teachers are busy preparing for end of the year testing. Students are showing PAWS and continuing to make sure they are at a “level-zero” with their tone of voice in the halls. A level zero voice level is expected from every student at William Foster when they are in the hallways. A general theme of improving reading level is of focus from an academic standpoint throughout William Foster’s classrooms. Also, an emphasis on making sure students are mastering their math facts is critical as well. Achieving academic success amongst all students is of top priority.

As we move towards the third marking period, we look forward to incorporating outside activities amongst co-curricular activates and school events in the coming months. An upcoming event we hope to see all students and families at is Family Fun Night, which takes place before the boys varsity game on Friday, February 10, 2017. Stay tuned for more information on the Family Fun Night event. William Foster is also undertaking One Book as part of literacy night. Books for every student at William Foster will be coming home in the next few weeks. Literacy night will take place in March, and students are asked to use these books and participate in this upcoming effort to promote reading at home. More information on this event will follow shortly. Another event we look forward to seeing our students and families participate in during March is Muffins for Mom. More details on this fun occasion will be sent home with your student soon.

There is always so much positivity to recognize that surrounds William Foster Elementary. I am honored to announce that William Foster was recognized this past December by the Ohio Department of Education as a bronze winner for Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS). Winning this award was a team effort, and everyone from the school and community worked together to showcase what is happening on a regular basis. William Foster will continue to promote an accepting and positive demeanor to encourage exemplary behavior amongst students. A banner is on display when you come into the building to recognize William Fosters accomplishment. Thank you to the Ohio Department of Education for your consideration and support.

As I always say, the success of students is a joint effort. Parents, please continue to work with your children on understanding and mastering their math facts. Also, make sure students are reading every night. Involve the whole family by instilling a family reading night where every member takes some time to sit together and read. Parents of students in grades three through five, talk to your student about the upcoming state testing, make sure the students are prepared and ready to do their best. Resources are always available to better guide your child through their academic success. Do not hesitate to reach out to teachers and staff to better support your student's learning. A continuous thank you to the William Foster students, families and community, your continued support is essential to our operation. I look forward in seeing you all at school events and activities in the coming months.
